The square format has proven to be optimal for me over the last 25 years to express my photographic ideas. At the beginning of 2025, I discovered the potential of the panorama format for my topic Solitude. It provides additional freedom for well-thought (but not arranged) “snapshots”. The two facets of being alone (independence or loneliness) can thus be ideally displayed. Below a selection of older and newer photographs:
Whether a picture with a single person is perceived as an expression of independence or loneliness often depends on the individual experience, e.g. in a restaurant
on the way home
at the train station
at home in the apartment
When fishing
photographing
At the lake
on the beach
on the diving tower
or when hiking.
While making music
in the museum
or when skateboarding
Being alone has nothing to do with the presence or absence of other people. Even among many people, everyone can be alone.
And sometimes you’d prefer to be alone:-o
Panoramas are particularly suitable for showing the independence of the birds in contrast to rigid structures, such as the raven with the nut in its beak

Die Geschichte hinter den Solitude Panoramas
Das quadratische Format hat sich für mich in den letzten 25 Jahren als optimal erwiesen, um meine Bildideen zu auszudrücken. Anfangs 2025 habe ich das Potential des Panoramaformats für mein Thema Solitude entdeckt. Es liefert zusätzlichen Gestaltungsspielraum für durchdachte (aber nicht arrangierte) “Schnappschüsse”. Die beiden Facetten des Alleinseins (Unabhängigkeit oder Einsamkeit) lassen sich damit ideal darstellen. Nachstehend einie Auswahl älterer und neuerer Fotos.
Ob ein Bild mit einer einzelnen Person als Ausdruck von Unabhängigkeit oder Einsamkeit empfunden wird, hängt oft von der individuellen Lebenserfahrung ab, z.B. im Restaurant
auf dem Heimweg
am Bahnhof
zu Hause in der Wohnung
beim Angeln
beim Fotografieren
Am See
am Strand
auf dem Sprungturm
oder beim Spazieren
Beim Musizieren
im Museum
oder beim Skateboarden
Alleinsein hat nichts mit der An- oder Abwesenheit anderer Personen zu tun. Auch unter vielen Menschen, kann jeder für sich allein sein.
Und gelegentlich wäre man lieber allein 😉
Panoramas eignen sich besonders gut um die Unabhängigkeit der Vögel im Kontrast zu starren Strukturen zu zeigen, wie zB diesen Raben mit der Nuss im Schnabel
