    About me

In my street photography I capture the decisive moments, when the irregular shapes of living creatures contrasts with the regular forms of the environment. People are interchangeable anonymous actors and animals are part of the city life. My preference for contrasts and regular structures is also reflected in my nature photography. I appreciate the visual language of Andreas Feininger, Fan Ho and Henri Cartier-Bresson.

I use analogue and digital Hasselblad Medium Format cameras. Earlier prints are gelatin silver prints. Newer prints are digital prints based on scanned negatives or digital files. Post-processing, if any, is limited to basic steps and there is nothing on the print, that wasn’t already on the negative. Depending on the size the prints are limited between 3 and 5 prints (plus 2 AP). They are made on Hahnemühle FA Baryta paper using ink with a WIR rating > 400 years, signed on both sides and are exhibited and sold in black aluminium frames with Artglass AR 99 protect.

A clear message is key to my photography which follows the paradigm “Reduce to the Max” reflected in

    * Simplicity: Topics, patterns and lines are clear and straightforward

    * Black and White: no distraction by colours

    * Square format: a balanced image composition

    * Authenticity: there is nothing in my pictures, that was not already on the negative

    Curriculum Vitae

Born in Basel (Switzerland) in 1968, I started taking pictures in my youth with various cameras of my father and grandfather, who were both enthusiastic amateur photographers. Around 1997 I discovered my passion for black and white photography and started to develop my pictures in my own darkroom. Today I take photos mainly digitally. My favorite photographers are Andreas Feininger, Fan Ho and Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Initially I photographed with Canon and Pentax cameras in 35mm format. In 2004 I switched to medium format and have been using Hasselblad ever since, first analogue and from 2021 digital. My preference for the Hasselblad system is based on the compatibility of the cameras and lenses since 1957 until today as well as the substantially larger size of the negative compared to the 35 mm / full frame format.

I enjoy shooting with my fully mechanical CM 501 and the digital back CFV II 50C, which is a wonderful symbiosis of the analogue and digital worlds. However for everyday use and travel, I usually prefer the X2D for ergonomic and practical reasons.
