My photographic ideas often emerge when song lyrics meet reality. This series was inspired by a newspaper report stating that a plate of spaghetti Bolognese cost CHF 51 during the World Economic Forum in Davos. This reminded me of the Yello LP “You Gotta Say Yes to Another Excess” and the lyrics of the song “Welcome in Schwitzerländ” by Ex-Trem Normal.
However, my pictures do not show excess through obscenities—such as overpriced spaghetti or steaks covered in gold leaf—but through objects and situations that are considered normal, even desirable, in the “developed world.” Excess is not something unusual, but rather the norm.
The pictures show golden chocolate bunnies lining up in supermarket shelves as far as the eye can see.
Eggs without end
Vegetables that appear flawless and were uniform in size and shape.
Soaps in every imaginable scent
Brushes in all variations, with differences so small they hardly matter in practice
Discarded car tyres that could still travel hundreds of kilometres elsewhere.
Endless umbrellas to protect against every kind of hardship
With umbrella handles for every taste and price range
Meine Fotoideen entstehen oft aus dem Zusammentreffen von Songtexten mit Realität. Angeregt wurde diese Serie durch einen Zeitungsbericht, wonach während des Weltwirtschaftsforums in Davos ein Teller Spaghetti Bolognese CHF 51 koste. Dies erinnerte mich an die Yello LP “You Gotta Say Yes to Another Excess” respektive den Text vom Song “Welcome in Schwitzerländ” von Ex-Trem Normal
Meine Bilder zeigen den Überfluss jedoch nicht durch Obszönitäten – wie überteuerte Spaghetti oder mit Blattgold überzogene Steaks – sondern durch Objekte und Situationen, die in der “entwickelten Welt” als gewöhnlich, ja sogar wünschenswert gelten. Exzess ist nichts Aussergewöhnliches, sondern Normalität.
Die Bilder zeigen goldene Schokoladenhasen, aufgereiht in den Regalen des Supermarkts, soweit das Auge reicht.

Variationen von Pinsel, deren Unterschiede ohne relevante praktische Bedeutung sind.
